Jessica Brown Findlay has sought off competition to land the lead role in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Winter’s Tale, a forthcoming adaptation of Mark Helprin’s acclaimed 1983 novel of the same name, Deadline is reporting.
Best known as Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey, Brown Findlay also starred in last year’s coming-of-age drama Albatross, where she appeared as the feisty Emelia opposite Sebastian Koch, Felicity Jones and Julia Ormond, and is set to star in Shoplifters Of The World, a film about the demise of iconic British band The Smiths.
Winter’s Tale, about a dying young woman who falls in love with a thief who breaks into her home, will be written and directed by Academy Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind). This will mark his debut as director.
As for the other roles, Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Garrett Hedlund (Four Brothers) are frontrunners to play the thief, while Russell Crowe (L.A. Confidential), who worked with Goldsman on A Beautiful Mind, is said to be in talks to star as a half-demon named Pearly Soames.
Production is expected to begin in October, should all the elements come together in time.
Still waiting for her career to go supernova! Perhaps this is another big step!

She’s been terrific in everything she’s done so far, so hopefully a big-budget tentpole will help her shine.
