UK Box Office: August 19 – 21, 2011

The Inbetweeners Movie, a big screen spin-off of the hit E4 comedy show, opened at the top of the UK box office this weekend with a whopping £13.2M, surpassing all analysts predictions.

Its better-than-expected opening means the Entertainment Film Distributors’ film has already reclaimed the slender £3.5M production cost and surpassed Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason to become the biggest grossing British comedy of all time.

Elsewhere, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes managed to hold off competition from other – considerably underwhelming – new releases, including Cowboys & Aliens, Spy Kids: All The Time In The World and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, with a very respectable £2.4. The film, which has been on general release since August 11, has now raked in a total of £11.6M and shows no sign of slowing down.
