Headlining this week’s assortment of DVD and Blu-Ray releases is Sony Pictures’ The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Adapted from Stieg Larsson’s acclaimed novel by Steven Zaillian (Contagion), David Fincher directs Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in this slick and concentrated thriller about a man (Craig) hired to uncover the mysterious disappearance of a girl who has been missing for over forty years.
Featuring a confident and sexy, yet headstrong performance from Mara, striking cinematography and a punchy score from the mind’s of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an extremely absorbing tale of two people from differing backgrounds brought together by one common goal: “to catch a killer of women”.
Also hitting DVD and Blu-Ray this week: The Lady, starring Michelle Yeoh as Burmese pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi; Patience (After Sebald, a documentary about the life and work of cult writer W. G. Sebald; The Future, about a cat that tests a couples relationship to its very core; and the 75th anniversary edition of Le Grande Illusion, a war drama about two soldiers who find themselves in a German prisoners of war camp.
