Review: Cosmopolis (2012)

Upon waking up one morning, Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a 29-year-old businessman, decides he needs a haircut. Riding in his white limousine through the streets and suburbs of New York City, Eric comes into contact with all manner of commodities, not least his own innately fractured mind, leading to contemplation, suspense and destruction.

Adapted by writer and director David Cronenberg from Don DeLillo’s divisive novel, Cosmopolis is an introspective, effusive affair about Eric’s own wavering Continue reading “Review: Cosmopolis (2012)”

Penélope Cruz Reunites With Pedro Almodóvar For The Brief Lovers

In a move that will make many happy, myself included, Penélope Cruz has signed on to star in Pedro Almodóvar’s next film The Brief Lovers, Deadline has reported. This will mark the first time the duo have worked together since Broken Embraces, which was released three year’s ago.

Review: Brave (2012)

Merida (Kelly Macdonald), a versed archer and princess to King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), lives a stable, yet somewhat imprisoned life within her family’s kingdom of DunBroch. When she becomes older and more free-spirited, she inadvertently defies an ancient custom her mother forces upon her. Finding herself banished due to her erratic behaviour, she visits a calamitous witch (Julie Walters) in a moment of sheer stupidity. Continue reading “Review: Brave (2012)”

Review: Friends With Kids (2011)

Jason (Adam Scott) and Julie (Jennifer Westfeldt), childhood friends, are both successful business-types, but neither have emulated that success in their love lives. With their friends – couples Ben (Jon Hamm) and Missy (Kristen Wiig) and Alex (Chris O’Dowd) and Leslie (Maya Rudolph) – start to have families, they naturally feel pangs of jealousy, leading to a decision that not only has repercussions on them, but also on the seemingly stable lives of those close to Continue reading “Review: Friends With Kids (2011)”

An Untitled Article Praising Lena Dunham’s HBO Series Girls

It can be tricky to predict how well a new TV series will do before it airs and audiences are allowed an opportunity to voice their opinions. Sure, it can be hyped well in advance and boast two of the indie and comedy world’s current “to watch” names, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee its success.

Bearing that in mind, you’ll understand my initial trepidation regarding Girls, a new HBO series created and written by Lena Dunham, responsible for last year’s Continue reading “An Untitled Article Praising Lena Dunham’s HBO Series Girls”

Review: The Innkeepers (2011)

Settling in for what is to be the Yankee Pedlar Inn’s final weekend as a fully functional establishment, employees Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy) use the quiet to their advantage and decide to investigate the hotel’s well-documented supernatural history. But when their efforts fail to produce results, they turn to one of the hotel’s last guests, former actress turned physic Leanne Rease-Jones (Kelly McGillis), for help, a decision that soon has them coming face Continue reading “Review: The Innkeepers (2011)”

Review: The Pact (2012)

Following the death of her mother, and the sudden disappearance of her sister Nicole (Agnes Bruckner), Annie (Caity Lotz) returns to the place of her troubled childhood – a ordinary looking Victorian-dressed house riddled with nightmares and mysteries she’d rather forget. As she realises there may be more to Nicole’s vanishing act than meets the eye, and supernatural elements begin to take their toll, she’s forced to delve further into the house’s – and her mother’s – past, Continue reading “Review: The Pact (2012)”

Interview: Ken Loach And Cast Talk The Angels’ Share

To mark the release of Ken Loach’s Scottish-based dramedy The Angels’ Share, I was invited to Deanston Distillery, located a few miles outside of Stirling where most of the films interiors were set, to meet Loach, writer Paul Laverty and cast members Paul Brannigan, Jasmin Riggins, William Ruane, Siobhan Reilly and Gary Maitland.

The picturesque distillery provided an excellent location to chat to the attendees in three separate sittings: first with Riggins, Ruane, Reilly and Maitland about Continue reading “Interview: Ken Loach And Cast Talk The Angels’ Share”

Review: Prometheus (2012)

Moved to investigate an alien moon after coming across archaeological evidence of their creators (known here as ‘Engineers’), scientists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), backed by a trillion dollar investment from Peter Weyland, founder of ‘The Corperation’, lead an expedition aboard the ‘Prometheus’. As the team begin to explore the moon it soon becomes clear that all is not as it appears and, along with cryptic figures Continue reading “Review: Prometheus (2012)”
